About Brandon Food Policy Council
The Brandon Food Council is a citizen led group establishing a resilient and inclusive community based food system in alignment with the principles of the Brandon Food Charter.
Central to its mission is promoting equity, public health, cultural diversity, and ensuring food security for all. Since its inception in 2019 the council has initiated impactful projects, including a pay what you can meal program, a food rescue grocery store and educational workshops in high schools. They also convene food system stakeholders annually to exchange ideas and align efforts towards a collective vision of a resilient and sustainable local food ecosystem.

This collaborative platform encourages knowledge sharing, innovation, and the fostering of new partnerships that are essential for addressing the complex challenges within our food system. By bringing together diverse perspectives, the council's annual gatherings serve as a catalyst for meaningful discussions, informed decision-making, and the formulation of strategies that positively impact the entire community.

They work through partnerships, education, community engagement and advocacy, with ongoing initiatives such as developing an application so assist community garden management, coordinating research for municipal food policy, and crafting a comprehensive Brandon Food Strategy for sustainability, wellness and enhanced food security.
